Zachary George Roerig was born in Montpelier, Ohio USA, on February 22, 1985 – his zodiac sign is Pisces and he holds American citizenship. He’s an actor, probably best known for playing Casey Hughes in the “As the world turnsand Hunter Atwood in “One Life to Live,” two soap operas.
Early life and education
Zach was raised in Montpellier by his mother Andrea, born in 1963, and his father Daniel Roerig, born in 1961. who died in 2007 of a heart attack. Zach has a younger sister named Emily, born in 1989.
After finishing elementary school, Zach enrolled at the Barbizon Modeling and Acting School located in Cleveland, and his participation in the International Modeling and Talent Association led to him signing his first contract with his late talent manager. He then attended Lycée Montpelier where he was physically very active, playing football and wrestling, and at the same time worked at the Fackler monuments belonging to his father and grandfather, where he helped them make stones tombstones.
Acting career
Zach made his film debut playing Jason Matthews in the 2005 short “Flutter Kick,” and in 2007 portrayed Teenage Joe in the award-winning film “Tie a Yellow Ribbon.” 2008 saw him portray Matt Mullen in ‘Assassination of a High School President’, Adam in ‘Dear Me’ and The American Soldier in ‘Official Selection’.
He then took a hiatus from acting for six years, before landing the role of Jack Stanard in the 2014 war drama ‘Field of Lost Shoes’, and in 2016 appearing as Edward Wehling in the short ‘ 2BR02b”.
He went on to portray Carter in ‘Rings’ and ‘Mikey’ in 2017’s ‘The Year of Spectacular Men’, while his last two film roles were in 2018’s ‘The Outer Wild’ and ‘The Last Full Measure’ which slated for release in 2020. Zach is best known for his roles in television series – he got his start playing Rollerblade Messenger in the 2004 episode “All in the Family” of “Law & Order”. In 2005, he started playing Casey Hughes in “As the World Turns” which is the role that made him famous and which he held until May 2, 2007.
In 2006 he portrayed Grady Love in ‘Split Decision’, and 2007 saw him appear in two TV series, titled ‘Guiding Light’ and ‘One Life to Life’ in 15 episodes starring Hunter Atwood. He could have been seen playing Taft in “The Prince” in 2008 as well as Cash in “Friday Night Lights” appearing in six episodes in 2008 and 2009. Zach landed the role of Matt Donovan (as well as Silas, Gregor, Ethan Maxwell and Klaus Mikealson) in “The Vampire Diaries“A supernatural teenage drama television series, appearing in many episodes from 2009 to 2017, which made it popular all over the world, as the series turned out to be a major hit.
He dedicated himself to filming those series and didn’t appear in any others until 2016, when he reprized his role as Matt Donovan in a single episode of “The Originals.” His most recent TV series appearances were in two episodes of “The Gifted” in 2017, two episodes of “Legacies” in 2018 and more than ten episodes of “Dare Me” in 2019 in the lead role of Sarge Will Mosley .
Loving life, friends and relationships
Zach started dating Alana Turner in 2007 after the two met at a local bar in Los Angeles. They dated for three years before Alana got pregnant and gave birth to their daughter Fiona in January 2011.
The two never married, and shortly after Fiona was born, the two separated, with Alana having full custody of the girl. In the summer of 2013, Alana was incarcerated in federal prison, and Zach took this opportunity to file legal papers in Georgia and seek full custody of his daughter. Zach is very close to actress Amanda Seyfried who is his best friend, and is best known for her roles in films such as “Mamma Mia!”, “Mean Girls” and “Les Miserables”.
