While JR was born in Cuba, his family moved to the United States when he was a baby, and they settled in Tampa, Florida, where he would grow up. He got his first acting opportunity in 2008 when he was cast in the TV show “Tyler Perry’s House of Payne” in which he played Diego Hernandez for two years. The sitcom focuses on a large, multi-generational family all living in the same house.
