Early life and family
Clare-Hope Naa K. Ashitey was born on 12 February 1987 in Enfield, Middlesex England, so under the sign of Aquarius, and holding British nationality. Her parents are Tina and Paul Ashitey, a medical secretary and a dentist respectively, who both come from Ghana. Educational background
Clare attended primary school in Brimsdown, Enfield. Then she went to The Latymer School in Edmonton, in North London, matriculating from there in 2005. While being a student of the Latymer School, she started attending the Center Stage School of Performing Arts, located in Southgate, studying there for more than seven years. Clare got her first role in the film “Shooting Dogs” (2005), playing the girl named Marie – the film was released in the US under the name “Beyond the Gates”.
It is worth mentioning that she then took a gap year after matriculating from high school, to work full-time on the set of the film of Alfonso Cuarón, “Children of Men” (2006), in the role of Kee. It was risky as she got a lot of questions about her further education, however, the movie helped her a lot and made the way to other series and films. She was also nominated at the London Critic Circle Awards for the Best Newcomer award for her performance in the movie. So it wasn’t until 2009 that Clare graduated from the School of Oriental and African Studies with a BA in anthropology.

First steps
After “Children of Men”, Clare soon got another offer, to appear in the movie “Exodus” (2007), in which she played the role of Zipporah. Directed by Penny Woolcock, the film gave Clare an opportunity to work in an international team with such actors as Reza Ali, Vladimir Jacsik, Muhim Ahmed and many others.
TV series appearances
After her graduation from the Center Stage School of Performing Arts in 2010, Clare was cast as Helen in the series “Coming Up” (2003 – present) – even though she only appeared in one episode, it was her successful debut in a TV series . She later had more roles in such series as “Top Boy” (2011–present), in which she landed the role of Taylor, “Mrs Biggs” (a mini-series launched in 2012), in which Clare played the Receptionist, and “Suspects” (2014 – present), in which Clare appeared in 10 episodes, playing DC Charlie Steele.
She could also be seen in “Doctor Foster” (2015 – 2017) in the role of Carly, “Master of None” (2015 – present), in which she played Sara, and “Shots Fired” (2017 – present), a thriller series, in which Clare landed the role of Kerry Beck. Her latest work in the series was “Seven Seconds” (2018), a mini-series of 10 episodes, in which Clare appeared as KJ Harper. It is worth saying that Clare is already assigned to two new series projects being launched by the end of 2019: “Criminal” and “The Feed”, in which Clare is going to play the girl named Evelyn.
Movie appearances
Along with appearing in various TV series, Clare was also active filming in multiple movies, such as “Black Brown White” (2011) landing the role of Jackie, “Candle to Water” (2012) playing Shona, and “All Is by My Side” (2013), in which she played the role of Faye. She got back to the movies after a three-year gap, appearing as Gaby in “The White King” in 2016, and played Joan in “IT” in the same year.
Personal life
Clare is not at all secretive about her current relationship with her long-term boyfriend. His name is Ross Fitzgerald; they have been dating for more than five years already, and often spend their spare time in bars, pubs and restaurants, enjoying beer, wine and other cheerful drinks.
