She attended Rockbridge County High School where she was physically very active, as she competed in lacrosse, track and cross-country. After matriculating, she enrolled at Washington and Lee University from which she graduated with a magna cum laude bachelor’s degree in business journalism in 2008. She was a George Washington Honors Scholar, which means she had a full scholarship to college.

While in college, Kelly was a co-captain of the women’s lacrosse team and a member of the national leadership society Omicron Delta Kappa.

Journalist career

Kelly launched her career in 2007 when she started working for “The Wall Street Journal”, mostly covering stories related to the economy and real estate – she wrote the columns “Ahead of the Tapes” and ” Heard on the Streets,” and hosted the daily “News Hub” show on WSJ.com; she also began covering the Global Economics bureau.

She was the host of the 2012 Republican primary debate, held in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, while she was also the host of James Carville .v. Ann Coulter Debate, at the 25th Annual Simulation Convention at the University of Washington and Lee, her alma mater. Kelly is often compared to Erin Isabelle Burnett, an American news anchor currently working for CNN, who in the past worked as a CNBC host.
