Josh was raised in Lexington by his mother Carolyn who was a homemaker and his father Larry Jones Hopkins who is an American politician, serving in the United States House of Representatives from 1979 to 1993 representing Kentucky’s 6th congressional district .
Josh attended high school in his hometown and after enrolling held several jobs, such as a waiter and pool cleaner, while simultaneously pursuing an acting career. He eventually enrolled at Auburn University in Alabama, where he received a bachelor’s degree in 1995.
