Early life and education
Darren spent his entire childhood in North Carolina alongside his parents and his brothers Adam and Andrew Sugg – he hasn’t talked much about his family, as he prefers to keep them away from the media’s attention.
Darren started playing video games at a very young age, and became fascinated by them – he was already an avid gamer when he enrolled at high school, but wanted to work on making video games rather than just playing them.
After 1996 when he matriculated from a local high school, he enrolled at the Marist College, and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in communication and multimedia programming.
Career of a game developer
Darren’s career began soon afterwards – his first notable work was on “The Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar” video game – although the idea for the game wasn’t his, he was part of the main development team responsible for the games creation. After the first part, the team worked on a sequel to the game entitled “The Lord of the Rings Online: Mines of Moria”, before Darren moved on to work for the Turbine company as their game system developer.
