Who is Adrian Broner?
American professional boxer Adrien Jerome Broner was born in Cincinnati, Ohio USA on July 28, 1989, making Leo his zodiac sign. he is famous for have boxed in four weight classes and won world championships in all four; Adrien is also known for his rather inappropriate behavior inside and outside the ring.
In December 2012, “The Ring” magazine ranked Adrien #5 best active boxer in the world.
Education and early life
Adrien and his brother Andre Broner were raised in Cincinnati by their mother Dorothy Broner and father Thomas Knight; Adrien rarely talks about his family in public, but it is believed that his parents divorced before he was 10, and he and his brother were subsequently raised by their mother.
Adrian grew up in a pretty rough neighborhood, and his mother struggled financially to raise him and his brother; Adrien was six years old when he started boxing, and it later became a way to stay off the streets. He started showing potential in his early teens, and it was while attending a local high school that Adrien began to consider making a career out of it.
He also played football in high school, then after graduating in 2007 chose not to pursue a college education but to continue boxing.
Adrien’s boxing career
Adrien boxed as an amateur until turning professional on May 31, 2008; his amateur record was 300 wins and 19 losses.
He won his first three professional fights in the super featherweight class, all via first-round knockouts of Ramon Flores, David Warren Huffman and Allante Davis. He flew to Las Vegas, Nevada to face Terrance Jett for his fourth match, and Adrien beat him via stoppage in the sixth round. His fifth and final fight in 2008 was a no contest against Eric Ricker.
Adrien won against Jose Alfredo Lugo at Staples Center in January 2009, then beat Eric Ricker by unanimous decision in March, and in April he knocked out Angel Rodriguez in the fourth round. Adrien then faced Fernando Quintero in a controversial fight; he won by majority decision, but most people thought Fernando was the real winner. Adrien then knocked out William Kickett in the sixth round at Staples Center in June, then he knocked out Edgar Portillo in the first round. He ended 2009 with wins over Henry White Jr and Atencio.
He had four fights in 2010, beating all four of his opponents – Ilido Julio, Guillermo Sanchez, Carlos Claudio and Rafael Lora.
On March 5, 2011, Adrien faced former super bantamweight champion Daniel Ponce de Leon; it was once again a controversial victory for Adrien, but this time unanimous. He next faced Jason Litzau, who was a Top 10 super featherweight contender; Adrien knocked him out in the first round. He then won the vacant World Boxing Organization (WBO) world super featherweight title by knocking out Vicente Martin Rodriguez in the third round. Adrien defended his title against Eloy Perez on February 25, 2012, but was forced to vacate it after becoming overweight for the category; he nevertheless faced Vicente Escobedo, knocking him out in the fifth round.
His Lightweight division debut was a win over Antonio DeMarco on November 17, 2012, which was Adrien’s second title win; he successfully defended the title against former World Boxing Association (WBA) champion Gavin Rees in December 2012, defeating him in the fifth round.
Adrien then moved up to welterweight and faced Paulie Malignaggi on June 22, 2013, defeating him by split decision; this made Adrien the world champion in three weight classes at the age of 23, while earning $1.5 million for the fight. He failed to defend the title against former light welterweight champion Marcos Maidana on December 14, 2013, losing his first professional fight.
Adrien then started boxing in the light welterweight division, and his debut was a unanimous decision victory over Carlos Molina on May 3, 2014. Adrien and Emmanuel Taylor boxed for the WBA International title on September 6, 2014, with Adrien winner by unanimous decision.

He returned to welterweight in 2015 and faced former International Boxing Federation (IBF) welterweight champion Shawn Porter on June 20; it was Adrien’s second loss, as he lost by unanimous decision. He then returned to light welterweight the same year and won the vacant WBA title by defeating former WBA champion Khabib Allakhverdiev by knocking him out in the 12th round, then defending the title against Ashley Theophane on April 1, 2016, the knocking him out in the ninth round.
He returned to welterweight on February 18, 2017, when he defeated Adrian Granados by split decision, after which Adrien once again returned to light welterweight and faced Mikey Garcia on July 29, losing by unanimous decision.
Adrien faced Omar Figueroa Jr. on April 21, 2018, which ended in a draw.
On January 10, 2019, he lost via unanimous decision to Manny Pacquaio for the WBA welterweight title.
Most recently, on February 20, 2021, Adrien won against previously undefeated Jovanie Santiago via unanimous decision.
Love life and woman
Although we rarely hear Adrien talk about his love life in public, we know that the popular boxer is now a married man. He and American non-celebrity Arie Nicole got engaged in 2015 – he gave her a $140,000 engagement ring; the two have not revealed their wedding date, but are believed to have exchanged vows in the summer of 2016.
Adrian and Arie have five children together: Na’Riya, Admire, Broner, KJ and Adrien Jr; photos of all the children, as well as his wife, are uploaded to Adrien’s Instagram account.
He has yet to mention the girls he dated before meeting Arie; Adrien has been married to Arie Nicole since June 2023 and they have five children together.
Interesting facts and hobbies
Adrien’s fans grew concerned for him in October 2016, when his internet posts suggested he wanted to kill himself; on October 17, he strangled a waitress at the Drai’s nightclub in Las Vegas and was thus arrested.
He was rearrested on April 20, 2017, after failing to appear in court.
A video was uploaded to the internet on September 10, 2017, showing Adrien knocking out a fan; he was ordered to appear in court but did not, and so an arrest warrant was issued. Adrien then contacted authorities and claimed he was unaware of the court hearing and would have appeared had he known.
He was convicted of a sex offense on February 13, 2018, and received a restraining order in March 2019, after making homophobic threats online.
Adrien sexually assaulted a woman in a nightclub on June 18, 2018, and on December 18, 2019, was ordered to pay her $830,000.
He spent some time behind bars in the second half of 2021, after failing to enroll in an alcohol rehab program.
