The body of a teenager was found near the hometown of a missing 11-year-old boy of Montezuma, an official with the Iowa Criminal Investigations Division confirmed Thursday evening. The body’s clothing matched what Harrelson was wearing when he was last seen on May 27. DCI deputy director Mitch Mortvedt told a press conference shortly after the remains were found. He did not confirm the sex.
Confirming the identity of the body could take eight weeks or more, Mortvedt said. However, authorities informed Xavior’s family of the discovery. We still don’t know much, ”Mortvedt said. We can make assumptions, but it’s always dangerous. The discovery sparked a heavy police presence near the town of about 1,500 people in Poweshiek County. Authorities said a farmer tending to his bean crop near 110th Street and Ewart Road, about 4 miles from Xavior’s house, found the body in a nearby field.
Xavior is said to have disappeared a few days before his 11th birthday. The boy was last seen near his home in the northwest of the city, wearing a red t-shirt, blue pajama bottoms and black slip-ons – in high cane. Over the next four months, the community raised over $ 35,000 through vigils, fundraisers and a benefit concert in hopes of attracting anyone with information to come forward.
