A mother throws children into the lake
Police said Cross Lake Patrol officers were dispatched to Willow Point, near the Interstate 220 bridge over the lake, shortly before 11 a.m. following a report of a child seen floating in water, as CrimeOnline previously reported. Officers found an infant pronounced dead at the scene and then rescued the other boy, who was rushed to Ochsner LSU Health in critical condition. His condition has since deteriorated and he is expected to survive.
Police spokeswoman Sergeant Angie Wilhite said detectives initially gathered conflicting accounts of what had happened and believed the children may have entered the water on a bridge at the- above a small bay on the lake, but further investigation revealed they had been thrown from the larger – and larger – highway bridge, the Shreveport Times reported.
They were able to identify a suspicious vehicle – a gray Dodge Caravan with a Texas license plate – and issue a “be on the lookout” notice.
Several hours later, an officer from Waskom, Texas, patrolling Interstate 20 spotted a vehicle that matched the description in a rest area just above the Louisiana-Texas border and drove off. returned to investigate. This officer stopped the car and took Black into custody.
Earlier reports said he transferred her into custody by Louisiana State Police, but took her to Harrison County Jail in Texas to await her extradition to Caddo Parish. in Louisiana.
