Terresha Lucas is a 30-year-old woman who has been charged with eight counts of terrorist threats, according to the Douglasville, Georgia Police Department.

Police in a suburban Atlanta have arrested a 30-year-old black woman who allegedly sent letters to several African-American families claiming to be a white member of the Ku Klu Klan who would burn their homes and kill their children.

There was no contact information available for Lucas. It is not known if she hired a lawyer.

Investigators allege that Lucas wrote letters describing himself as “a six foot tall white man with a long red beard who did not live in the neighborhood.”

In March, residents of the Brookmont Subdivision of Manning Drive in Douglasville, about 23 miles west of Atlanta, began receiving racist and threatening letters in the mail.

“I received one two days ago and was alarmed by what I read,” a resident told CBS46 News.

“The letter uses the N word, talks about the KKK, hangs people, kills children, kills entire families, and sets houses on fire.”

At least seven families said they had received threatening letters. The first letters were sent to two households in December of last year, the researchers said. Douglas Police Detective Nathan Shumaker said the letters were left in mailboxes overnight and found the next day.

Six months went by without a letter until they received another note on September 6. Police spent months investigating the case, going door to door and checking doorbell cameras. Investigators also distributed leaflets to residents asking for information.

The breakdown of the case happened last month on Labor Day. Police said they obtained evidence linking the letters to Lucas’s home, although the department did not say so.

Records released by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office indicate that Lucas was sentenced to jail.

She faces eight counts of threats and terrorist acts. Each count carries a maximum prison sentence of five years and a fine of $ 5,000.
