Alexi Ashe was born on the 1st April 1983, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA, into the Jewish family of Tom Ashe and his wife, Joan; she has an older sister, Ariel with whom she spent childhood in their hometown.
After high school, Alexi enrolled at Occidental College, where she studied political science and government, and obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in 2006, after which Alexi furthered her education at Southwestern University School of Law, where she received her Doctor of Law degree in international human rights.
Career Beginnings
She took a break between her BA degree and Doctor of Law studies, and worked as a policy and research analyst at Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office, between March 2007 and April 2009.
After completing her studies in 2011, Alexi joined the Somaly Mam Foundation, where she worked as a legal intern, during which she created a legal guideline for lawyers utilizing civil litigation against sex traffickers. The same year, Alexi moved to New York City, where she became a part of the King’s County District Attorney’s Office.
Although she was working on a pro bono, she was eventually elevated to Human Rights First, working as a refugee legal representation intern, then in April 2012 she secured a new position as a legal counsel for compliance at AC Investment Management in New York.
Rise to Prominence
Alexi continued to develop her career, and left her job at AC Investments in December 2012 to join the World Wide Orphan Foundation in Maplewood, New Jersey, as a writer and legal intern grants.
The following year, Alexi became an assistant DA at King’s Country District Attorney’s Office, in Brooklyn, New York City, working in the Special Victims Bureau and Human Trafficking Bureau. Alexi is now working as an attorney at Sanctuary for Families, while she is also a member of Human Rights First’s board of directors. Thanks to her successful career, Alexi has been recognized as one of the New York’s most prominent “New Abolitionists”.
